Baccarat Strategy Guide

Baccarat Systems

Basics of the Game

Before we get into the baccarat strategies, we first need to take a look at the game’s basics. The objective of the game is to form a 2 or 3-card combination that adds up to nine. The one with the hand closer to the value of nine wins. The values of the cards are equal to their face values, except for the 10’s, J’s, Q’s and K’s which are all equal to zero and the A which is equal to one.

Live Baccarat

Players can bet on who will have the better hand – the player or the banker. If you bet on the player’s hand and win, you get an amount equal to twice of the amount you’ve bet. If you bet on the banker and win, you also get double your bet, although a 5% commission will be deducted. If you bet on the tie, you get a nine times your bet, and if you didn’t bet on the tie, but a tie resulted from the game, you automatically get your bet back. There doesn't seem to be much room for baccarat systems and strategies.

Baccarat Tie

As you can see baccarat is 100% game of chance. There are no decisions or baccarat systems that players can use to decrease casino edge. Other than never bet on tie as the casino has 14% advantage on bets on tie that pays 9 to 1. At casinos where tie pays 8 to 1 is the casino edge even higher. Also remember that although winning when betting on the banker means giving the casino a total of 5% of your winnings it has very low 1.06% casino advantage comparing to still very low 1.24% on player bets.

Baccarat Strategies

Even that baccarat is game of chance and it is not possible to decrease casino edge with any skill or baccarat systems, there are many baccarat systems out there. These baccarat systems never worked and never will. The only purpose of these baccarat systems is to generate profit by selling them. Below are various baccarat strategies:

  1. Betting strategies - one of the betting strategies would be the Martingale System. It basically means that you’ll be doubling the amount of bet you make every time you lose a game. Once you bet on a winning hand, you get an amount equal to your initial bet as profit. Unfortunately this strategy only works in games with no betting limit and where the players have unlimited resources. Unfortunately such a game is still to be invented.

  2. Baccarat Betting

  3. Pattern spotting - another baccarat strategy is to try to spot the different patterns and to benefit from spotting that pattern by betting accordingly. Casinos do almost everything that they can do to facilitate pattern watching as baccarat strategy. Often even handing out small sheets of paper grids to players so that they can mark down the different hands, and come up with their own baccarat strategy. At online casinos especially those with live games are the patterns recorded automatically. Casinator does not recommend pattern watching and betting according these patterns but players that are interested can find more details about recorded patterns at live dealer baccarat casinos.

  5. Seeking for less number of decks - another baccarat strategy is to play with the least number of decks as you possible can. This baccarat strategy says to seek out the tables with the least number of decks that are playing at those tables. According to these baccarat strategies fewer decks give the player an advantage. Again this baccarat strategy is just a myth like the others. If the table has fewer decks then the house edge has increased on the tie. For example in mini baccarat tables that is played with 6 decks (comparing to 8 decks of classic baccarat), the odds change on the side of the casino regarding tie wagers because it has less decks. For the mini baccarat game, the casino's edge is 14.44 percent on the tie hand whereas in the classic version the house has the edge of 14.36 percent on the tie hand. The only difference in the odds are on the tie

Flat Betting

Contrary to betting strategies as Martingale, Fibonacci, Paroli or others baccarat systems that are based on changing the bet value it is recommended flat betting baccarat strategy. Flat betting means you’re not going to keep adding money to the game. You will be using a low risk defeat and in the short run you may be able to leave with a profit. With the flat betting you will be able to bet more since you will not need to double your bet with your losses like you would in a Martingale bet.

Live Dealer Baccarat

Even in the long run you are much better off using the Flat Betting system when you play baccarat online or at land based casinos because you will be less likely to lose your money due to the fact that you won't have to double the money you have bet. You can only lose the small amount of money you had bet in the first place. But it is all up to you. It has been said by casino experts “If you cannot win with Flat Betting, do not bet at all!"

Big Road

It is also very important to determine the amount of time you will play and how much money you will spend. Remember that you are more likely to lose if you make a choice to play longer no matter what baccarat strategy or baccarat systems do you use.
