My name is Gus Hansen and I play online poker exclusively at Full
Tilt Poker. To learn more about my poker career, please keep
reading...
I was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and grew up playing backgammon
and tennis. In those games, I saw a lot of people win matches by
playing it safe. They'd wait for their opponents to make mistakes,
reluctant to stick out their own necks. Early on I thought, "What's
the fun in that?"
As an exchange student in Santa Cruz, California, I'd hang with
my friends on the beach and boardwalk during the day and play poker
at night. I took the game back to Denmark, but in those days it
ran second to backgammon. A few years later, I moved to New York
to be a professional backgammon player. I did very well, but it
was a hard way to make a living. In order to supplement my income,
I started playing more and more poker.
My first big tournament win was in 2002. It was the World Poker
Tour $10,000 No-Limit Hold 'em event at the Five Diamond World Poker
Classic. The following year, I won the $10,000 No-Limit Hold 'em
Championship at the WPT's L.A. Poker Classic and, one month later,
I won the WPT's Bad Boys of Poker. In early 2004, I won a $7,500
No-Limit Hold 'em event during the WPT's Caribbean Adventure. All
in all, those four WPT wins earned me induction in the WPT's Walk
of Fame the first year they launched it.
2005 was also a very good year for me. Along with making it to
the final table at the FullTiltPoker.Net Poker Invitational from
Monaco, I won the $400,000 Grand Final at the Poker Superstars Invitational.
When I'm not playing poker, I like playing high-stakes Yahtzee.
I'm known for my aggressive play. The way I see it, if somebody
has to win, I'd rather it be me. |
